About Alina Austin

My love for creating began with my mum. Some of my earliest memories, around age five, are of us painting together at home. We would bring everyday things to life, the outdoor table and chairs, plant pots, even the fence. Suns, stars and moons became our signatures. There was a small gate in our backyard where we painted the names of everyone who meant something to us, a quiet record of our little world in colour. From there, I kept gravitating toward anything that let me work with my hands.

In my early twenties, I explored that instinct through fashion and florals. I created a small fashion label centred around silk, flowing pieces, and later spent early mornings at the Sydney Flower Market, building bouquets and large-scale arrangements by hand. That time shaped my understanding of texture, composition, and how unexpected elements can come together in a way that feels balanced.

While studying interior design, I found myself missing the physical act of making. There was a quiet pull toward painting that I couldn’t ignore. When I finally began, something shifted. The process felt both freeing and grounding, and I realised I had found a medium that felt essential to me.

My work sits between landscape and emotion. The palette and forms are often drawn from land and sea, but the process itself is intuitive. I build each piece slowly, responding to colour, movement and feeling rather than working to a fixed plan, allowing the work to resolve in its own time.

I paint because it feels freeing. It allows me to be fully myself and to follow instinct wherever it leads, bringing a sense of peace and clarity to my life. What began as an intuitive act of expression has gradually become my practice and purpose.

I am currently focused on exhibiting more, meeting private collectors, and developing opportunities to work closely with interior designers and considered spaces.
